The simplest task…

5 10 2008

Too much time in space can wear down even the sharpest of minds. The constant monitoring of the space lanes, the threats that lurk aruond every corner, the battles and the ever watching eye on the scanners that announce enemy is inbound.

Eventualy the minds weakness shows. One such occation was the other night. Lying in my room looking at the steel walls I can see it from a more humorous perspective.

Once again I had been surveying the surrounding system of TDE. I investigated reports on hosile activity next to 020, in the 6YC system making sure that the fleet that were assembling was safe.

Every thing seemed to be going smooth untill the FC called for a cyno field in MGAM.

I quickly launched into a run for MGAM in order to put up a field.

As I spurred toward the destination reports started tickling in that TRI was one the move with a medium size fleet and most likely inbound for the MGAM system.

I arrived well a head of the TRI gang and in my haste I bought a beat up Merlin. The mechanics of the station looked very very wierd at me when I ordered it loaded up with Ozone and a cyno generator.

I promtly undocked and the last thing I heard as I headed out was the local docking communication ending with “…there wont be enough…”, I shrug it aside as whatever the little people in the docking areas thinks is of no consequence to a pod pilot.

I set off for the POS as the first of the TRI fleet entered the solar system. Thinking they were in for quite a surprise I activated the cyno field module… nothing. I willed it to activate and again… nothing.

A communication flashed up from the fleetcommander asking what in space I was doing and why I was not broardcasting a jump beacon.

That was when it hit me that I had never really trained the art of cyno fields to a large degree so the consumption of Ozone was huge when I tried to open it.

With hostiles now reported at the station I realised the hopeless situtaion. Our fleet was stuck in our home system, the hostiles free to roam and I was to blame.

I called up the regional maret interface and saw that next door there was a ship of desired design that could hold the amount of Ozone need to open the field.

I was sure the hostiles would have scouts on the gates but desided that since I had created such a mess it would be perfectly ok to loose a small ship and my clone. I made a quick dash to the next door system and back again to the POS without incident. Cursing my lack of attention all the way forth and back.

As I arrived back at the POS another more competent pilot opened a cyno field and our fleet jumped in. I was devastated.

While the fleet formed up and some still were jumping in a sole Sabre class Interdictor belonging to INZi showed up and was quickly killed.

The interdictors aligned for the station as well as the battleships with my insignificant ship in trail.

Carriers were undocked and were jammed at once, interdictor warp to the station and was shortly followed by the battleships. I warped in with the interdictor and ordered my ship pulled in by the docking crew.

I was promtly transfered to my Megathron battleship but could feel the moro from the hangar crew.

As I undocked from the hangar I entered battle at once.

The battle that followed must have been as frutrating to the enmy as it were to us. The TRI gang warped back and forth while activating their microwardrives making it hard to kill individual targets as they slipped in and out of range.

On their part our supperior remote repairing of the battleships kept our fleet alive as the enemy could not bring enough damage on any single ships for a longer period of time without risking their own ships.

Besides their fleet was outnumbered and outgunned so I was impressed they kept at it for som long as well as trying to begin with.

One of our ship had wandered off a bit and TRI was not slow to explot it and rammed their ships at full speed into our comrade. Their ships took massive damage to the structural integrity doing this and some exploded on impact with the metal beast piloted by Splagada.

Large version

The result was a loss for TRI but I can only assume they knew what they walked into.

As for myself I now have investigated the nature of cynofields and will not make the mistake again.

KIA returned from the Vale as the Tides of Darkness swept over the northern hemisphere. Constallations blinked out one after another as the campaign known as MAX swept the north.

KIA has fought this darkness before and will again. New corporations and alliances heed the calls of the Darkness and submit to the dominance and slavery that is personified by the alliance known as BoB.

After returning from The Vale, KIA quickly came under attack from our former alliance comrades from the Tortuga days. Evoke and Outbreak showed up and declared war on KIA and DAI.

Not for no reason did we initially hook up with these entities in Period Basis. They performed well and in the manner expected from premium PvP pilots though on occation the smack in the local system com channels did more of the talking than their guns.

Eventualy they withdrew, but we do not live under the illusion that they in any way were driven off.It is hard to drive somebody from the lawlessness of low security system. Their home systems had come under siege and they had to respond to incursions from Pandemic Legion.

Believing we would get a short break before moving out everyone prepared to reap the fruits of the Geminate region. Little did we know what were to come…

23/09-08

KIA had grown and we have welcomed 3 new corps in our midst. Tides of Silence, The Muppet Factory and Bladerunners. They had been on a trial period to see if we could work together and now they were becomming full members of KIA.

To celebrate KIA held its first Frigate Tourney. The winner was Felicia Wallas from DAC who was promtly killed in the best of tradition in honor of the gods.

24/09-08

The following day I was bored and roamed around patrolling Oijanen, BWF and IOO in my Crow interceptor. TRI and EXE had turned up. Confident from our previous exodus from Vale of the Silent they were here to toy with us.

The incursion was quickly repelled and we set up camp on the BWF stargate. The Concord details of the chase show little of actual fleet size as the engagement was quick and violent.

After no more than 10 minutes of holding the BWF stargate and awaiting the return of TRI report tickeled in that TDE was about to come under attack from a large TCF fleet.

The FC took a quick survey of the forces and ordered full speed to the jumpbridge system.

I took a quick detour to the bwf station and changed ship from my interceptor to my new Vagabond Heavy Assaultship. My respect to the DAI hangar workers who quickly transfered my pod and hooked me up. So far my vagabond had not seen battle, as I mostly flies support ships. I desided that this was the time to omit that status.

Arriving on the jumpbridge you could cut through the anticipation and the DAI FC took command and called in additional Heavy Interdictors to the bridge.

All KIA personel undocked from the TDE station and battle could be heard over the voice com. The TDE fleet was mainly made up of a few Remote Repairing Battleships.

Explosions crakced as Mathias814 lost his raven in an inferno of projectiles and lazers.

The enemy was confident that they would succeed in this battle as the mainstay of the DAI fleet and a good portion of the KIA fleet had been tied up in BWF. And if not for our jumpbridges we would have been unable to respond.

The Heavy Interdictors of KIA and DAI was called to jump in. A trap was a bout to be sprung. The newcommers in the TDE system was not noted in the fighting and they aligned for the TDE station.

Execute ! Execute ! Execute ! The FC called over the system as soon as the HAC’s entered warp toward the station.

Kelton Seltori had alread charged against the enemy in order to hold them down. Unfortunately he was caght by a hostile Rapier that stopped the lightning fast interceptor in its tracks.

As the hostile fire changed from Mathias814 to the Dominix battleship of Etil DeLaFuente the main fleet jumped into TDE system and initiated warp to the station.

We arrived just in time to see the old war horse buckle under the combined fire of 25 hostile ships and explode in a silent blast.

I litteraly landed on top of an Eagle as I had warped to the station at range. Scramed and webbed he went down faster than I could release my drones.

ElCoCo exploded in his Falcon next to me as we had landed directly on the enemy and he had no way to avoid the oncomming onslaught.

A firework scenery of  lights danced across the camera drones of my ship as debris made contact with my ships shield.

I noted that some of the enemy was being kept alive from a Logistic ship so I turned on my micro warpdrive and headed straight for it. Covering some 40 km at 5 km/sec I was quickly able to put a warpdiruptor (point) on it. It was followed by a stasis web and the Onerios was still in space. I called that it was tackeled and fighters were assigned to the target.

I noted that some of my shots fell a bit short of the target.

My orbit range needed adjustment and while I turned for the next target, I calibrated my navigation computer.

Fador, in his drake was under heavy fire and his shield was faltering. His ship emitted distress signals and I tageted a Cerberus that went down awfully fast despite the relative heavy tank. But it was to no avail. Fador lost his Drake in another firey explosion and I noted that the large explosions were becomming more and more frequent.

Hauling his pod to safety Fador undocked from the station in a Raven to continue the fight.

The enemy had had enough and was pulling back but Mable got caught by a Rapier but while going down ensured additional losses to the enemy. Mable sold her Vagabond at a high cost to the enemy that lost 4 ships in the process before they broke off.

The result was a clear win to KIA and DAI though, once again concord did not record the events propperly. One will note how many TCF pilots appear on the KIA DAI side.

The record also does not show over how large and area the battle actualy took place, with several dogfights and smaller skirmishes. Though TCF clearly lost and took a beating they were good sports about it and there were loose chatter from veterans to veterans despite the fact that we had just exchanged shots.

25/09-08

Spirit was at an all time high as the KIA fleet set out to wreck havoc. After roaming the spacelanes the fleet was bored and set destination for home.

In the system O1-FTD KIA stubled upon a small gang consisting of differnt BoB affiliates.

That was when events started taking a turn. Fate conspired with luck and served a feast for the fleet. Being outgunned and outnumbered in the extreme BoB got a bloody nose in BWF.

Hunting the BoB gang around the end result was some additional losses in BND for the BoB gang. As the fleet took up position a call went out from TDE that a group had shown to terrorize the system.

FC turned the fleet around and a repetition of yesturdays manuver was executed fast and timely. The result was utter anihilation of the inferior fleet.

27/09-08

An oppertunity had rissen that could not go un noted. BoB had kicked PURE out of Geminate but left an outpost system undefended and with no claim of sov.

A KIA fleet was quickly assembeled to exploit this oppertunity.

At 19:40 EvE time a mixed fleet of 76 Battleships and dreadnoughts jumped via Titan bridge into MGAM-4.

We arrived in an empty system and behold there lay an undefended station.

The dreads went into siege and my Megathron spoke as the shield of the station went down.

In due process the station was taken and KIA started setting up POS in the system.

We, the soldiers of KIA, know not the full plans but one simply do not take a station for sport. Plans are unfolding. Hopefully the plans will put a stop to the Tide of Darkness…

Running the pipe

26 08 2008

Saturday we mostly sat on the P3EN / Obe gate but later a run up the pipe to TVN was planned.  I had played rearguard the most of the day. Nothing much happened. For over 5 hours I watched the swirling colors of the large bubble we had placed.

around 21:00 we moved out in a medium sized fleet of 40 assorted vessels. Our destination was set for TVN where small engagements were taking place between TRI and the northern coalition.

The trip was quite uneventful and we knew TRI was with their fleet in TVN so we expected no troubles.

Jumping into TVN was were the exitement started. The ship sensors of our ships were a long time recovering from the mass jump in and we lost 3 ships to a TRI sniper fleet that eventualy was chased off by a pure fleet comming our aid.

My ship was hurdeled over 100.000 km into space in an emergency warp out that my ship is predesigned to perform whenever control is lost for a certain amount of time.

As I warped back to the gate the first that came into view was a TRI nano gang engaging the Pure fleet.

TRI got out amazingly clean, loosing only 3 ships in an engagemnt that could very well have turned into a disaster had Pure had an interdictor.

The local comms channel, though not of the quality of the empire ones, contained  much profanity. I do not mind a witty remark from one fleet to another but the level that TRI displayed was amazingly low.

It clearly indicates that there is not as much common ground in TRI alliance as may seem. The leadership of most of the corps are old veteran pod pilots and are above such “smack”. A leaddership must be strong and one of the best way to display such is though the dicipline of ones pilots. The lack of selfcontrol of the individual pilot speaks volumes about the alliance as a whole. Anyway I wonder if they are ready to hold space.

While the KIA gang roamed the space I held my watch and eventualy powered down the ship in a remote location.

Going out on a friday night

23 08 2008

It was early friday night but I was already drunk. I usualy dont drinkand when I do it has a profound impact. I had an argument with the Gallente girl. Arguments happen every so often when Im idle for long periods. I need something to do and the expedition to Stain had not satisfied my urge to swell in glorified combat.

Stumbling out of the bar located in the Jita station orbiting planet 4 I stumble into other pilots and civilians. I know im being rude but need to get some steam off. Im not looking for a fight but aint avoiding it either. Im mentally in another space where comon sense does not play a significant role. I need to get out. Not sure where to, anywhere but this overcrowded station where all and everything is for sale.

Salvation came in the shape of a buzzing sound from the neocom.

General KIA mobilization alert incomming…

Just waiting while the mico processors open the message I can feel how a wave of “calm” rush in to take the place of the urgency I felt before. I have a purpose again. I have a goal and slowly the world fall in to its proper shape. We all have this sence of losing perspective from time to time and KIA is a focal point that helps me concentrate and stay on track.

The orders is to get in Carrier fleet, stock up on ships and move to Obe. Rumor has it that the alliance TRI has resurrected and have started to push HYDRA from their space in order to make it their own. The name P3EN spings to my mind as the palce where we had some epic fights vs HYDRA. Never an agressive alliance they have however always fought back.

I have to sober up and get in another clone not full of implants and hardwireing. I rush to the medical center of the station and stumble upon fellow KIA pilots also heeding the call.

A quick blink of white light and we are in the TDE station in Geminate. Instantly transported lightyears away. Stepping out clone vat bay, I had a short shower before heading straight to the briefing room.

Eddz were at the speaker stand with Tjakka and some Daisho leaders as they laid out their plans for quick incursions in the Vale. Everyone paid close attention as the tactical situation of the Vale was explained and options laid out. eXceed, DOOM and some other corps were in the system of TVN having cleared out P3EN. Mainly they were busy decoration their new price, the outpost in TVN.

Of note is that BoB is roaming the north in their mega fleet not doing much but kicking ant hills and downing POSs. The Northern coalition seems to be unable to make up their minds if to protect the Vale or fight BoB.

This friday night KIA would jump to Obe and take up possition in and around P3EN and wait further notice.

Ending the meeting the pilots went for their “wet graves” and ships. A parade of ships undocked one after another while the logistic ground personel called for extra space on the carriers for Battleships, Heavy Assault Ship, Interdictors and Reconships.

I undocked Juturna and caught a brief glimpse of Varuna amidst a sea of ships, her heavy armor plates, protecting the undock point of her fighters, dully reflected the sun.

As more and more ships undocked I took up position behind the station to get a better view.

DAI was jumping their fleet in as well adding to the frustration of the officers trying to organise the logistics without collisions in front of the station.

In space there is no sound but yet space itself vibrates when the KIA titan enters the system. If one has never witnessed the presence of a Titan it cannot be explained by mere words.

The main stay of the BS fleet was subsequently bridged by the titan to Obe and the carriers made the jump themselfs.

A single hostile carrier was reported in Obe and an attemp was made to ram it out of docking distance as our capital fleet jumped in.

Well arrived in Obe the pilots changed into non-capital ships and moved into P3EN and took up position on the out gate to Obe, hoping for TRI to make their move as it was now their space being violated.

Only time will tell what will happen in this battle tested system called P3EN where fleets crash and lives are lost in firery glory. And so, for now, we await the response of TRI…

I hear Ombey after docking up Varuna updated his log on the operation, see Ombeve.

The road home is long

20 08 2008

KIA has returned home from Stain and have been back in TDE for almost two weeks now. Personally I have taken a trip to Jita to look up on the Gallentean girl.

Xenobytes performed excellent in Stain and more often than not we found that they were able to take down equal size fleets. They had a firm grip on the system 4GQ-XQ but we made frequent incursions. However taking a system that is owned by Sanshas Nation is very hard and almost always become a matter of willpower. When I was based out of T-8 in FM-C we had two incidents where we simply just stayed in system for a period of two months before the besigeres gave up. They could move in and live but never make it their home as long as we sat in the stations and hunted their ratters and industrials whenever they were low on numbers.

I lost a Sabre and a Manticore in the engagements and consider it a very small price to pay for crossing arms with some of the best pilots in EvE. The Sabre was lost when I tried to cover the back of the fleet as we retreated from 4GQ-XQ as the Xenobytes brought out capitalships. The manticore was lost in a solo accident mostly due to my lack of experience with Stealth Bombers. But Im getting better at using them.

I salute Xenobytes for their capabilities and take home a lesson or two again.

For now I’ll hang out in Jita with the girl and see what time brings.

Deployment to Stain

4 08 2008

So here I am, back where it all began. Stain has been and will always be my nemesis. Whatever I do, like try to join an alliance in the far north, I end up in Period Basis next to Stain. Join a mercenary outfit, and we deploy to Stain. Figures…

As if that is not enough we are fighting in no less than three regions. Stain, Feythabolis and Esoteria. The two of them are completely new to me despite having lived so close to them for over a year.

Of note are the system 4GQ-XQ in Stain, in which Stain Empire (SE) lives. Stain Empire, and specifically Xenobytes, were the first ever true combat pilots I ever crossed. Crossed is a fine word for when they crippled 3 of my ravens in less than 2 weeks. On the other hand I learned from them and have never lost another Raven to roaming gangs.

Another system of note is C9N-CC in Esoteria, a system which Stain Empire was recently evicted from. The system has a legacy in that it still holds the wreck of the first Titan to go down. The system has some of the most vivid colors Ive ever seen. A deep blue and grey star field, a piercing red sun and some spectacular light blue and white nebulae.

As the last system of note is AZN-D2 in Feythabolis. A goon controlled system that was the staging point for the attack on C9N-CC. Also the landing zone of the KIA dropships.

On sunday afternoon we moved out from TDE in a large gang consisting mainly of Heavy Assault Ships. I was in my trusty Sabre.

We moved casually along with scouts out. Shortly after having left Geminate region we encountered a Rapier which we ignored as we were eager to get to the destination. It became aparrent that he was following us and a camp was set up at the in-gate in UD-AOK. The pilot magichka jumped into my bubble and was promtly disposed of.

Closing in on C9N-CC, which was our original destination, we were informed that a large fleet fight was taking place and it was not the place to be in our nifty HACs. As a result AZN-D2 was chosen as new destination and headquarter of KIA for the duration of our stay.

Along the way we passed through some spectacular systems of untold beaty and mystery. We even passed some strange looking vessels. We did not bother them and they left us alone as well.

As we came closer to our destination more and more combat vessels appeared. Scared, victorious and proud they roamed and patrolled. There was no doubt we were entering a warzone where everyone was hunter and prey. Goons and Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) gangs and fleets became more and more frequent. We had some banter in the local comms channel, but most of  the TCF spoke a strange dialect, which rumor has it, has its roots in the original Gallente language. They tend to put in a lot of ‘z’s in their pronunciation of words often replacing ‘th’…

After docking up in AZN-D2 and getting settled we took the ships out for a spin and went by C9N-CC.

I was happy to get the chance to see the behemoth of “STEVE” the Avatar Titan wreck. I warped well past it to get a good approach. Smoldering fires can still be observed which must be remains of some engineparts still turning being held in motion by repair drones and nano robots that have not registered the demise of the ship.

We will soon move out as we get comfortable with our new surroundings.

Carebears attack and rumors float

26 07 2008

The arrival of Juturna and her superior logistical capabilities have sparked new opportunities. One such oprtunity is the ability to take out the old Exhumer; an ore eating monster that can decimate huge quantities of asteriods in little to no time. Mining is not, by far, something I enjoy but killing Guristas in Geminate is simply such a lousy business that have to resort to such measures as mining. However Geminate does contain some rather valuable ore that can be refined from the chunks of asteriods.

Among the more interesting asteroids are bistot and crokite. Though I am not fully up to speed with the latest tech II modules for mining I can still make a nice profit.

As I was sitting nice and tight between thee huge asteriods of crocite a hostile is reported in O-VW and a collective sigh goes through the mining operation. We begin to pull in drones and empty the large canisters floating about in space.

I head for the TDE station in order to hop into the newest addition to my hangar – a vagabond heavy assault cruiser. Noone seems to be in a hurry and the hostile makes slow progress into our systems. His name is Belikah and he usually flies a hurricane battlecruiser, but he seems to have decided it is too slow a boat and had changed it for an Ishtar Heavy Assault Cruiser.

I follow him from TDE as he heads for UG-UW at the very back of our systems. As he jumps into UG I stay back and wait on the gate in case he decides that the welcoming comittee is too much.

A single Raven is all it takes to make him run. The Raven had a single heavy neutralizer and quickly killed off the drones he let loose on it. Ultimately he loses his ship in a hail of missiles.

General chatter on the coms always ensue after combat as as the fleet members are heading back for station a new contact is reported. This time it is SniggWaffe who is about again. They have tried to violate our space once before and lost a few ships with no losses on our part. They should have learned the lesson the first time where they tried to attack my vagabond in 5F systemn and was chased off.

The gang was reported to be about 20 in size, but as they approach VSJ and O-VW the numbers prove to be somewhat lower around 12 in total. I quickly dock up and change ship from the vagabond to my Sabre interdictor class.

The most senior of them who runs scout is reported in an interceptor Ares, the very same I fought in 5F, if I am not mistaken.

The fleetcommander orders us to take up position around the 5F gate. We have one heavy interdictor, a vagabond, an Ishtar, a crow, a sleipnir and two cloaked falcons. Further off grid we have 5 battleships aligned and ready to throw themself into the fray.

The Ares jumped through and easily burned through the Hictor bubble and off he went. The hostiles were reported in 5F on the TDE gate. The scout must have been displeased with what he saw cause after a minute they turned and headed back to 020, i.e. the way they came from.

In a staccato voice I was ordered to burn for the 6YC system to see if we could catch them there. The entire fleet set in motion. Battleships warped in as I left the system and took pursuit of the hostiles. Right on my heels I had Zapp in his ultra fast crow.

In 020 we had gained enough on them to see them just jump out as Zapp and I landed on the gate. We quickly got a myrmidon tackled. I left zapp to hold it down while I continued to 6L78. I jumped through at the same time as another myrmidon jumped through. He must have felt a shiver seeing my Sabre jump with him.

Landing on the other side of the gate I released a warp disruption bubble but for reason unknown to me I was too close to the myrmidon and was quickly double webbed. I had turned from hunter to prey as they called out over the local public channels and started chanting my death.

  • RaYaa > we have nice target unable to break tank
  • Wish Kaan > WAFFLE POWUH!
  • Porkus > what gate?
  • Kinlaan > T_T
  • wiztecia > allo
  • Wish Kaan > shimmy will guide ya

I miracously got clear of the double webbing as a Hurricane warped in on my position already proclaiming my near death. Little did they know that time was on my side and as they finally realised they were hunting a prey that could be dangerous it was too late. My fellow KIA fleetmembers jumped in and decended upon them like mad wasps. Plasma, missiles and projectiles flowed in a steady stream upon the helpless myrmidon and hurricane as I warped out with only 27% structure intact. The myrmidon went down first and was closely followed by the Hurricane.

As luck would have it the bubble burst and the pod of the myrmidon that zapp had chased down was able to jump though and almost escape. Unfortunately he panicked by seeing so many KIA ships and warped to the closest planet, by incident where I also had warped to.

Up went a new bubble and down went his pod.

Badly damaged, my ship limped back to the gate where I found my brothers in arms waiting. My ship was venting fumes into space and was practically about to break down. To my luck some of the battleships had bought makeshift repair drones that could patch up my ship so it was close to being manouverable again.

The pilot Porkus had been confused as to what gate to warp to in order to aid in my death struggle and subsequent demise. Having more sense than the others he jumped though the gate instead of engaging me and there by he escaped into 6YC.

Our gang jumped in and started warping around in the system making it look like a real chae was on. After 5 minutes we left the system but not towards TDE and home. The battleships and some otherships left that way the rest jumped out to 6L78 and sat down to wait.

We were sure he would be missing his friends shortly. And after 15-20 minutes the trick payed off and landed us a Thorax would be killer in our hands.

  • Porkus > patient bastards tbh >:P

Poor Porkus lost his ship and pod in a fight that was never a fight. We had a good laugh over his last comment and headed home.

As we approached the docking point we could see station service crew running around preparing battleships, carriers and dreadnughts…

Our gang quickly docked to hear what the fuzz was about.

KIA is mounting up was all we got out of an exited worker who was welding an extra armor rig on a megathron. The same people who only a month ago was scared to death now openly showed their admiration of the ships they were preparing.

Heading for the bar area of the large station we finaly got more firm confirmation that indeed KIA was to deploy during next week. Leaving the rest to drink and play cards I headed to the hangar to oversee that Juturna would be ready to move out in a few days. Her first real deployment ! I cant wait.
