The simplest task…

5 10 2008

Too much time in space can wear down even the sharpest of minds. The constant monitoring of the space lanes, the threats that lurk aruond every corner, the battles and the ever watching eye on the scanners that announce enemy is inbound.

Eventualy the minds weakness shows. One such occation was the other night. Lying in my room looking at the steel walls I can see it from a more humorous perspective.

Once again I had been surveying the surrounding system of TDE. I investigated reports on hosile activity next to 020, in the 6YC system making sure that the fleet that were assembling was safe.

Every thing seemed to be going smooth untill the FC called for a cyno field in MGAM.

I quickly launched into a run for MGAM in order to put up a field.

As I spurred toward the destination reports started tickling in that TRI was one the move with a medium size fleet and most likely inbound for the MGAM system.

I arrived well a head of the TRI gang and in my haste I bought a beat up Merlin. The mechanics of the station looked very very wierd at me when I ordered it loaded up with Ozone and a cyno generator.

I promtly undocked and the last thing I heard as I headed out was the local docking communication ending with “…there wont be enough…”, I shrug it aside as whatever the little people in the docking areas thinks is of no consequence to a pod pilot.

I set off for the POS as the first of the TRI fleet entered the solar system. Thinking they were in for quite a surprise I activated the cyno field module… nothing. I willed it to activate and again… nothing.

A communication flashed up from the fleetcommander asking what in space I was doing and why I was not broardcasting a jump beacon.

That was when it hit me that I had never really trained the art of cyno fields to a large degree so the consumption of Ozone was huge when I tried to open it.

With hostiles now reported at the station I realised the hopeless situtaion. Our fleet was stuck in our home system, the hostiles free to roam and I was to blame.

I called up the regional maret interface and saw that next door there was a ship of desired design that could hold the amount of Ozone need to open the field.

I was sure the hostiles would have scouts on the gates but desided that since I had created such a mess it would be perfectly ok to loose a small ship and my clone. I made a quick dash to the next door system and back again to the POS without incident. Cursing my lack of attention all the way forth and back.

As I arrived back at the POS another more competent pilot opened a cyno field and our fleet jumped in. I was devastated.

While the fleet formed up and some still were jumping in a sole Sabre class Interdictor belonging to INZi showed up and was quickly killed.

The interdictors aligned for the station as well as the battleships with my insignificant ship in trail.

Carriers were undocked and were jammed at once, interdictor warp to the station and was shortly followed by the battleships. I warped in with the interdictor and ordered my ship pulled in by the docking crew.

I was promtly transfered to my Megathron battleship but could feel the moro from the hangar crew.

As I undocked from the hangar I entered battle at once.

The battle that followed must have been as frutrating to the enmy as it were to us. The TRI gang warped back and forth while activating their microwardrives making it hard to kill individual targets as they slipped in and out of range.

On their part our supperior remote repairing of the battleships kept our fleet alive as the enemy could not bring enough damage on any single ships for a longer period of time without risking their own ships.

Besides their fleet was outnumbered and outgunned so I was impressed they kept at it for som long as well as trying to begin with.

One of our ship had wandered off a bit and TRI was not slow to explot it and rammed their ships at full speed into our comrade. Their ships took massive damage to the structural integrity doing this and some exploded on impact with the metal beast piloted by Splagada.

Large version

The result was a loss for TRI but I can only assume they knew what they walked into.

As for myself I now have investigated the nature of cynofields and will not make the mistake again.

Going out on a friday night

23 08 2008

It was early friday night but I was already drunk. I usualy dont drinkand when I do it has a profound impact. I had an argument with the Gallente girl. Arguments happen every so often when Im idle for long periods. I need something to do and the expedition to Stain had not satisfied my urge to swell in glorified combat.

Stumbling out of the bar located in the Jita station orbiting planet 4 I stumble into other pilots and civilians. I know im being rude but need to get some steam off. Im not looking for a fight but aint avoiding it either. Im mentally in another space where comon sense does not play a significant role. I need to get out. Not sure where to, anywhere but this overcrowded station where all and everything is for sale.

Salvation came in the shape of a buzzing sound from the neocom.

General KIA mobilization alert incomming…

Just waiting while the mico processors open the message I can feel how a wave of “calm” rush in to take the place of the urgency I felt before. I have a purpose again. I have a goal and slowly the world fall in to its proper shape. We all have this sence of losing perspective from time to time and KIA is a focal point that helps me concentrate and stay on track.

The orders is to get in Carrier fleet, stock up on ships and move to Obe. Rumor has it that the alliance TRI has resurrected and have started to push HYDRA from their space in order to make it their own. The name P3EN spings to my mind as the palce where we had some epic fights vs HYDRA. Never an agressive alliance they have however always fought back.

I have to sober up and get in another clone not full of implants and hardwireing. I rush to the medical center of the station and stumble upon fellow KIA pilots also heeding the call.

A quick blink of white light and we are in the TDE station in Geminate. Instantly transported lightyears away. Stepping out clone vat bay, I had a short shower before heading straight to the briefing room.

Eddz were at the speaker stand with Tjakka and some Daisho leaders as they laid out their plans for quick incursions in the Vale. Everyone paid close attention as the tactical situation of the Vale was explained and options laid out. eXceed, DOOM and some other corps were in the system of TVN having cleared out P3EN. Mainly they were busy decoration their new price, the outpost in TVN.

Of note is that BoB is roaming the north in their mega fleet not doing much but kicking ant hills and downing POSs. The Northern coalition seems to be unable to make up their minds if to protect the Vale or fight BoB.

This friday night KIA would jump to Obe and take up possition in and around P3EN and wait further notice.

Ending the meeting the pilots went for their “wet graves” and ships. A parade of ships undocked one after another while the logistic ground personel called for extra space on the carriers for Battleships, Heavy Assault Ship, Interdictors and Reconships.

I undocked Juturna and caught a brief glimpse of Varuna amidst a sea of ships, her heavy armor plates, protecting the undock point of her fighters, dully reflected the sun.

As more and more ships undocked I took up position behind the station to get a better view.

DAI was jumping their fleet in as well adding to the frustration of the officers trying to organise the logistics without collisions in front of the station.

In space there is no sound but yet space itself vibrates when the KIA titan enters the system. If one has never witnessed the presence of a Titan it cannot be explained by mere words.

The main stay of the BS fleet was subsequently bridged by the titan to Obe and the carriers made the jump themselfs.

A single hostile carrier was reported in Obe and an attemp was made to ram it out of docking distance as our capital fleet jumped in.

Well arrived in Obe the pilots changed into non-capital ships and moved into P3EN and took up position on the out gate to Obe, hoping for TRI to make their move as it was now their space being violated.

Only time will tell what will happen in this battle tested system called P3EN where fleets crash and lives are lost in firery glory. And so, for now, we await the response of TRI…

I hear Ombey after docking up Varuna updated his log on the operation, see Ombeve.

Deployment to Stain

4 08 2008

So here I am, back where it all began. Stain has been and will always be my nemesis. Whatever I do, like try to join an alliance in the far north, I end up in Period Basis next to Stain. Join a mercenary outfit, and we deploy to Stain. Figures…

As if that is not enough we are fighting in no less than three regions. Stain, Feythabolis and Esoteria. The two of them are completely new to me despite having lived so close to them for over a year.

Of note are the system 4GQ-XQ in Stain, in which Stain Empire (SE) lives. Stain Empire, and specifically Xenobytes, were the first ever true combat pilots I ever crossed. Crossed is a fine word for when they crippled 3 of my ravens in less than 2 weeks. On the other hand I learned from them and have never lost another Raven to roaming gangs.

Another system of note is C9N-CC in Esoteria, a system which Stain Empire was recently evicted from. The system has a legacy in that it still holds the wreck of the first Titan to go down. The system has some of the most vivid colors Ive ever seen. A deep blue and grey star field, a piercing red sun and some spectacular light blue and white nebulae.

As the last system of note is AZN-D2 in Feythabolis. A goon controlled system that was the staging point for the attack on C9N-CC. Also the landing zone of the KIA dropships.

On sunday afternoon we moved out from TDE in a large gang consisting mainly of Heavy Assault Ships. I was in my trusty Sabre.

We moved casually along with scouts out. Shortly after having left Geminate region we encountered a Rapier which we ignored as we were eager to get to the destination. It became aparrent that he was following us and a camp was set up at the in-gate in UD-AOK. The pilot magichka jumped into my bubble and was promtly disposed of.

Closing in on C9N-CC, which was our original destination, we were informed that a large fleet fight was taking place and it was not the place to be in our nifty HACs. As a result AZN-D2 was chosen as new destination and headquarter of KIA for the duration of our stay.

Along the way we passed through some spectacular systems of untold beaty and mystery. We even passed some strange looking vessels. We did not bother them and they left us alone as well.

As we came closer to our destination more and more combat vessels appeared. Scared, victorious and proud they roamed and patrolled. There was no doubt we were entering a warzone where everyone was hunter and prey. Goons and Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) gangs and fleets became more and more frequent. We had some banter in the local comms channel, but most of  the TCF spoke a strange dialect, which rumor has it, has its roots in the original Gallente language. They tend to put in a lot of ‘z’s in their pronunciation of words often replacing ‘th’…

After docking up in AZN-D2 and getting settled we took the ships out for a spin and went by C9N-CC.

I was happy to get the chance to see the behemoth of “STEVE” the Avatar Titan wreck. I warped well past it to get a good approach. Smoldering fires can still be observed which must be remains of some engineparts still turning being held in motion by repair drones and nano robots that have not registered the demise of the ship.

We will soon move out as we get comfortable with our new surroundings.

Securing our new home

24 06 2008

Live from the front line. The SMASH station in the sytem of TDE is about to fall.

Assembling at 12:10 and initiating attack at 12:20. Local coms are devoid of enemies.

We only have a few dreads on the field but no more is needed.

W4yloud – Phoenix
Butimtoolittle – Phoenix
Kresh – Moros
Necronomicon – Moros
Jay Death – Phoenix
KIAEDDZ – Phoenix

12:50 Station is confirmed KIA after DD from Omega Theory.

Pushing on and the Gallente Girl

18 06 2008

KIA has been making good progress since the DD of our small HAC fleet. Roadkill and SMASH (Smashkill) initially put up a decent fight but it has turned into a rout. Unorganized mass evacuation and firesales. I have seen some fighting but only in small scale so far. More on that later. First a status of the last week.

The rumor mill: Rumors has it that KIA has taken down a Roadkill Titan. This is not true.

One such incident of an unorganized evacuation resulted in the death of a high ranking officer who in shame selfdestructed his ship. Im all for good fighting and do I fall victim to a good trap I accept the consequence. The record of destruction if ofcorce a manufacture as the selfdestruction denies the record to be stored by CONCORD. We however recorded the incident by camera bots. At the same time a Charon freighter had to bite the dust so to speak.

A low security fleet called SoT has caused us some losses. They are competent led and field good ships. I hope we will se more of them in the furture. I have nothing but respect for their pilots. No smack, all professional in their manner.

Speaking of professional we currently fly side by side with the famous Goon Fleet. This is a mixed experience as they have a completely different set of rules and morals. I laugh and cry at the same time when I fly with them. I think we have succeeded in making some actualy become well drilled pilots but bear no illusion of the entire alliance as such. We had one incident where a goon member led an unknowing suspect to a KIA gang. There was pretty hefty discussion if we were to open fire or not. It was desided that we were not responsible for whoever warped to us based on a Goon scam. Down the Megathron went in a blaze of fire. Noone was proud of it but on the other hand we were not going to let people jump in and out at their pleasure. Im still not sure how I feel about it. I feel sorry for the pilot but EvE is a cruel world and being ignorant or uninformed gets you killed.

The KIA Titan has seen action once again and proudly displays the scars. It is never pretty to behold the power of the titan class ships but it sure leaves its mark on a battlefield. I hear Smashkill wear extra protection vs kinetic dammagetypes nowadays when they field a fleet.

Ive been a bit absent as I have made frequent trips to Jita to meet up with this Gallente gal. The relationship is on ice after the outbreak of hostilities between our bloodlines. We shall see where all this outbreak of hostilities lead. So far im staying well clear of the major factions.

Plans are unfolding slowly and we are pushing Smashkill furter and further into the deep areas of their domain. I feel a change in the solar winds…

Catching a Titan

7 06 2008

Finally we are back were we belong. At the front line and in our combat ships. Orders went out that first OP would take place friday at 19:00. We were to meet in the system Airaken and assemble the fleet there.

Alliance and corp coms were pretty quiet when I turned up at 18:00 in my Deimos. At 19:00 we moved out with 30 ships of various classes. Heavy assault cruisers, interceptor, heavy interdictor, interdictors and reconships. All in all a very competent fighting force.

The contract we are on, is in support of the Goons moving into Geminate. They have taken the system of BWF-ZZ and are holding it while bringing in the capital fleet to take down the POS’s. Our small gang quickly went through the system as nothing is worse than a system filled with Goons. The local coms chatter is constantly filled with gibberish, obscenities and what is worse.

Our destination was set for P-E9GN. The trip was Quite uneventfull besides a mammoth we all tried to get a shot at but it simply got blown up too fast. New destination was set for 4D9-66 and on the way we ran into a passive tanked Myrm.

I flew beside one of our new additions to the alliance Midder of Obsidian Inc. who happens to fly a Deimos as well.

As we took down a Drake I noticed an alert on my neo com. Unferth Devastator pod transponder had come online. I reported this intelligence and reportedly Roadkill now had a Titan around somewhere. Not much notice was taken though.

By that time our fleet seemed a bit disorganized. For some odd reason orders did not go out clear and fleet members started to jump though stargates without orders to do so and when they jumped through some strated to align to next system. I really cant tell what caused it but we had a few new guys and we were comming back from from a cearbear break. Everyone should know how important it is to follow orders and hold cloaks.

That was when the Titan was reported in the next system. A clear trap had been lain by Roadkill in order to kill our fleet. A silence sweept over the fleet coms. Eddz took command and we made a count of how many HICs we had and interdictors. A member of the fleet reports he had a cyno generator. A picture became clear in all our minds. Catching a titan.

A quick survey of the troops concluded it was worth the try.

We knew there also was a Heretic on the other side and we would have to get out of a possible bubble. We all jumped in on order and started aligning. A doomsday devise has an approx 12 seconds timer from release till detonation. It should have been adequate time for our fast ship to clear the stargate and any bubbles and warp away, make a 180 degree turn and come back, trap it and call for backup.

To say the least it did not go as planned. Even though I was well clear of the gate and in warp the doomsday still caught up with me. Going over it later in our operations room well back in Airaken some of the losses was ascribed to the phenomenon I have described earlier. When Many ships jump through a stargate it takes time for sensors to readjust. Normally it is not that big a problem as we hold the jump in cloak but here we had to get out as fast as possible.

The result was a shattered fleet unable to catch even a lone Freighter had that been the target.

My Deimos disintegrated and I had to take the long way home in my pod that had ejected. Unferth Devastator and Roadkill had had a good start but we would be back for more. In retroperspective we would mostlikely do it again and try to trap the Titan. I hope we get the chance and it sticks its head out.

A quick trip to Jita and I was set to go again in a new Deimos, unfortunately I had to power down the engines as I ran into an old friend in Jita station. But our fleet reassembled and actualy got very good results later that same night.

Tortuga

20 05 2008

KIA alliance had been invited to join up with other likeminded mercenaries and form what was to be called TORTUGA.

A coalition of mercenaries with no strings attached and a permanent place to live.

A daunting plan!

We were ordered to get all assets to a system we labeled Cham.

The sight of it was impressive. The sheer amount of ships present surpassed anything I’ve ever dreamt of. It was not a fleet it was an armada. Spearheading us were a mighty Titan class Erebus.

Erebus

I was to fly next to a Titan. I was to fly with 100’s of capital ships of all sorts.
We invaded what was called Period Basis to claim our price of independence.

122007.10.31.19.09.072007.10.31.19.10.1836

It was a slow process and heavy fighting took place all over the region.

TPAR took the blunt of the fighting and my trusty battleship saw more Titan doomsday action and survived 2 of them.

Eventually the enemy crumbled under the sustained attack of so many combined forces that they were destined to withdraw.

Period Basis was secured and we started building an infrastructure.

98

I was almost back “home” in Stain and took some flight into the familiar space.

I led my first OP into Stain as I had the best firsthand knowledge of the dwellers, their capabilities and location. We did not find any prey but I considered it a slight success as we on the other hand did not loose any ships and were close a few times to capturing a Raven.

I even came across old corp mates from the days in FM-C. Some of them had gone slightly mad in the cold debts of space. One had become a loner and laid claim to an entire system. With a sole blaster fitted megathron he had scared any “would be dwellers” away.

We exchanged news and moved on.

So some time passed while we settled in Period Basis and all was good, but all good things come to an end, some sooner than one suspect.
